[Living in Korea] How to order Food (Delivery Service) & Using Mobile App for Delivery

[How to order Food (Delivery Service) & Using Mobile App for Delivery]

I don't really know how Korean Traditional Delivery Service has been developed.

Anyway, Korea is well known as Nice Delivery Service. Actually, most of the korean people are not satisfy with the Service Quality. But, they believe the speed of the delivery is the world best level.

As long as you are reading this article, you ought be a beginner in Korean Language. So, I don't think you can order food by phone call. So, I recommend you to use Delivery Mobile Apps.

[Recommended Application : 요기요 (Yogiyo)]

My wife is using this application. This has web version also. So, you can search it on Naver (Korean Portal site which is famous in Korea) or Google easily.

Actually, there are several Apps. So, you can find the others also.

Other Apps : 배달의 민족 (Baemin), 배달통 (Bdtong)

 <Web Page : Yogiyo>

Most of the people are using the Mobile App instead of the Web.

How to use it?

 - If you can read Korean : I recommend you to use App (Mobile).

<Location Setting>

  1) You should choose where you are. Or you can insert the name of your town in Korea (You'd better to input the name of the town and city both to make the location accurate on search. If you use GPS in your Mobile, you can set your location more easily.

<Several kind of food categories>

  2) After setting the location, you can choose what kind of food you want. For Yogiyo, there are Fried Chicken, Chinese Food, Pizza & Western Food, Korean Food, etc.

<You can check several Restaurants near your place>

3) After chooseing the category you want, you should choose one restaurant you want. You can read the reviews of the others and compare the scores which have been made by the people has tasted the restaurants. I recommend you to choose the one which has the highest score.

4) And then, you can choose the Menu. You can check the prices. Unfortunately, there are no images of the foods. You should depend on Googling to guess what kind of the food is.

5) You can pay by credit card on the App. But, it is a little bit annoy process for you. So, I recommend you to pay for it on the spot (Your House). '현장결제' means 'Paying on the spot'. '신용카드' means 'Credit card'. And '현금결제' means 'Paying by Cash'.

- If you do not know the Korean Language : I recommend you to use Web site (https://www.yogiyo.co.kr)

* The process of the order is same as App (Mobile above). The only difference is to copy the Korean Script (The App version of 'Yogiyo' doesn't allow this fuctoion for now unfortunately). With dragging and copying the script, you can translate it on Google Translate or something similar site)

[Recommended Places to check out]

I have visted to the 3 cities located in East Coast of Korea.

Korea shows various different natural views though its small size. If you already have been to City area like Seoul in Korea and wants to experience Korea more, you should visit the other cities having wonderful landscapes.

Actually, Gangwon-do Province is well known as natural scenary for Korean people.

[Transportataion]

I recommend you us Vehicle Rental Service. I used public transporation (Bus, Train and Taxi). But, it was very uncomfortable.

I recommend this 'East Coast trip' to following Travelers :

 - want to see the mountains (Valley, Waterfall, Cliff, Canyan), Sea, Rivers.
 - want to have a taste the Korean Traditional Sea food
 - want water sports
 - want to visit to Temples

1. Sokcho

1) Yeongnang lake

The circumference of the lake is about 8 km (2 hours by walk).

You can walk along the lake and check several sightly spots.

2) Sokcho Fish market (Fisheries Wholesale Market)

The Market is so big. You can choose one among the small traditional restaurants. Employees or owners of restaurants cook foods on the table of the shop front. So, you can choose what you want to eat among the several alternatives.

Sweet and Sour Prawn (Left) & Squid Korean Sausage (Right)

3) Seolak Mountain

I couldn't go hiking becuase my wife didn't want it.
Anyway, I can tell you that Seolak Mountain is the one of representative mountains in Korea. I think Halla (Hanra) Mountain and Seolak Mountain are the most famous mountains.

2. Gangneung

1) Jeongdongjin

This place is well known as Sunrise Attraction for Korean People. Actually, the long coastal road of East Coast including the Jeongdongjin is beuatiful. I think you can just drop by here if you are passing near here. This place is a 30 minutes drive away from the Gangneung.

The third photo shows the 'Sun Cruise Hotel' - 5 starts. You can also here if you visit to Gangneung.

2) Gyeongpodae

The Gyeonpodae is the place the lake meets the East sea. It was quite and peaceful place. You can walk along the lake or jog here.

There are some delicacies here also. I recommend you to eat the 'Soondubu jjigae with Jjampong'. This food is famous and one of the representative goods in Gangwon-do Province.

3. Donghae

1) Mooreung Valley (Duta mountain)

It is located in Duta Mountain which is 30 minutes drive away from the Donghae City Center.
You can see the geography of typical Korean Mountains. It was the best choice for the Green shower with walking the forest path. You need to spend 3 hours at least to go hiking here. This is the 'must check out place' if you are staying in Korea!

You can see this beautiful view after walking for 20 minutes from the Entrance of the Mountain

Yongchupokpo - Waterfall

At a restaurant

Grilled Deodeok is the most famous in this area. It has saponin which is good for Lung, Stomach , and Stamina.

2) Cheon-gok Cave

This cave is 'Linestone' Cave. The lengh of the cave is 1.4 km approximately. It is about 400~500 million years old. You can see the various and beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, and stone pillars.

3) Mukho Lighthouse

Around of the Lighthouse, there is a small and simple park. But, it is also beautiful. When you arrive at the top of the park, you can see a cafe. You can have a moment of meditation at this cafe. Because the seascape is awesome.
There are nice restaurants near the park. You can eat 'Moray eel' Soup here. Most of the restaurants are placed in the bottom of the hill near by the sea.

Moray eel Soup - Moray ell looks ugly and unsavory. But, it doesn't have fishy smell almost. I have eaten various fishes before. Actually, this was so special for me. If you don't hate fish, I would like to recommend you to have a taste of it here.

4) Candlestick Rock (Chotdaebawi)

The first photo shows the Candlestick Rock. It looks like a candlestick. Actually, you should visit here early in the morning. You can capture the moment the sun rises at the edge of the candlestick rock. Many people come here to take such pictures.

Additionally, there is a Beach park consist of fantastic rocks and pine trees.

[Living in Korea] How to ride the Seoul Metro (Subway) & Places you must check out & Recommended Cities in Korea

<How to ride the Seoul Metro (Subway) & Places you must check out & Recommended Cities in Korea>

[Utilization the Subway App]

Seoul city area can be classified as the north region and the south resion by the Han-gang River.
The famous song 'Gangnam Style' is from this area. And there is an administrative distric which is called 'Gangnam' in the Gangnam area. (Image : Google Earth)

For Seoul, there are several subway (Metro) lines and those look very complicated. However, if you are the first-time visitor, you need to know the Yellow green (Light green) line is the main line.

If you use the Yellow green line (Line Number 2), you can go to almost every place in Seoul easily by the transfer. It costs 1,250 KRW (Approximately 1 USD). And it is added by the distance. But, it costs under 2 USD if you are in Seoul City area.

You can download the English Version of the any Subway App. For me, I used the App on the top.

You can search the name of the subway station in English.

[How to buy the Ticket and use the Subway?]

 - Every station has ticket machine. First, you can buy the ticket (Card) at the machine. The deposit of the card is 500 KRW (about 50 cents). And you need to charge the card by inserting the cash. And then, you can pass the ticket barrier. You should walk to the train platform. You need to check if the train heads to your destination. After you get to the destination, you can receive the deposit. But, if you want to use Subway during your stay in Seoul, you can keep it. So, you don't need to give it back.

[Places you must check out]

I introduce some nice places to visit. You can refer to the Names of the Subway Stations  here.

1. Gyeongbokgung Station

 - You can visit to 'Gyeongbokgung' Palace which is the one of the representative symbols. This palace was built in the early Joseon period (The last Dynasty in Korea which is centuries-old dynasty). And Hanyang (Old name of Seoul) was the capital of the Joseon. You can see the beuty of Korean traditional construction. And you can also walk the large scale of the gorgeous garden decorated as Korean Style.
Additionally, there is a village consisted of only Korean Style house also. The name of the village is 'Bukchon hanok Village'

2. Jamsil Station

- You can visit to Lotte World Tower which is the third heighest Building in the world. And you can go shopping in the shoping center here. In addition, there is a beautiful lake called 'Seokchon lake'. I have wrote about this lake and the tower at another article. You can refer to the article.

3. Myeong-dong Station

 - If you want to go to the Namsan Tower (Seoul Tower), this station and Hoehyeon Station are the closest stations. The tower is located at the top of the Namsan Mountain. If you want to look down the Seoul city, this tower is the proper place.
In order to get there. you should take Taxi or Bus at the station. If you take Taxi, it would cost about 5$. And Bus 'No. 2' goes to the Tower.

[If you want to go to the other cities?]

For the transportation to go to the other cities, there are 2 ways to go. You can choose and go to the proper station by your or purpose or budget.

 - Intercity Bus Terminal : Express Bus Terminal Station, Nambu Bus Terminal Station, Gangbyeon Station
Express Bus costs less than Express Train (KTX or SRT). Generally, the cost is half of the Express train and similar to Common train. But, the travel time is almost double. For example, it takes 4~5 hours to go to the Busan (Pusan) which is one of the furthermost city from Seoul. For Busan, it costs about 25,000 KRW (22~23 USD).

 - Express Train (KTX, SRT) : Seoul Station (KTX), Yongsan Station (KTX), Yeongdeunpg Station (KTX), Incheon International Airport (KTX), Suseo Station (SRT).
You can take common or slower trains at the Express Train station. But, I would like to recommend you to take the KTX or SRT if you want to save your time. If you take KTX, you can get to the Busan (Pusan) about 2 and a half hour. For Busan, it costs about 52,000 KRW (45~46 USD).

[Recommended Cities in Korea]

 - Gyeongju, Busan, Jeju Island, Suncheon, Gangneung, Sokcho, Pyeongchang.
 * Specific explanation will be written at other articles.
